More than forty years ago, Cleon Skousen wrote The Naked Communist. Skousen began a
study of communism during his 16 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Since Mr.
Skousen’s book was first published, we have seen the fall of the Berlin wall, the demise of the
former Soviet Union, the reunification of Germany, and the birth of democracy behind the Iron
Curtain.
On January 10, 1963, a list of 45 “current communist goals” was printed in the
Congressional Record. They were taken from Skousen’s book. Here are some of them as they
appeared in the Congressional Record. Attention is given to four which were aimed at the moral
and spiritual disintegration of our nation.
Number 24 – “Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them ‘censorship’ and a
violation of free speech and free press.” Since the advent of the Internet and the World Wide Web,
pornography has proliferated at breakneck speed. Our Supreme Court has ruled that even “child
pornography,” to some extent, is covered by the First Amendment. Some public libraries in Ohio
are already decrying the Federal requirement to block access to pornography on library computers.
They claim it is a censorship issue!
Number 26 – “Present homosexuality, degeneracy, and promiscuity, as ‘normal, natural,
healthy.’” Today this issue is presented as a discrimination issue rather than a moral one, and
likened to the civil rights movement. Those who reject this argument are labeled “homophobes”
and bigots. But, it is not a discrimination issue. It is a moral issue! No right thinking person
commends violence or other forms of abuse directed at homosexuals. But, for people who
genuinely believe the Bible to be the inspired word of God, it is impossible to embrace
homosexuality as an alternate and acceptable lifestyle. It is sin no matter what language it is
couched in (cf. Romans 1:26-28; 1 Corinthians 6:9).
Number 28 – “Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the
ground that it violates the principle of ‘separation of church and state.’” This goal has already been
achieved.
Number 40 – “Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy
divorce.” For some time now an effort has been underway to redefine the family. As a result,
divorce and promiscuity have reached epidemic proportions in this country.
As you stop to reflect on the birth of Christ, perhaps it would be good to also reflect on how
far this nation has strayed from the high ideals that characterized His life, and the lives of early
Christians. We are presently headed down the road to ruin. It is not too late to reverse course, but
time is running out.
Editor’s Note: Roger rush is known by many of our readers. He has held gospel meetings here at
Central several times. The above article was first published on December 7, 2003. Although
about 20 years old, it still speaks timely truths we need to be heeding. —RCV
