How’s Your Marriage?

How’s Your Marriage?

Traditional marriage and the family are under attack in our culture, and many marriages are
showing signs of the strain. From the Covid pandemic to the economic stressors of our time, many
married couples report increased difficulty in keeping their home intact. Added to this are the
myriad of moral conflicts in today’s culture, which produce spiritual and psychological pressures
unheard of even a generation ago.
God’s word, the Bible, has not changed on marriage. It is filled with insightful information,
guidance, and practical instruction for those who deeply desire to have and maintain a happy home.
But it seems that an increasing number of couples, especially younger, couples, are losing sight of
the profound value of the Bible in marriage and other aspects of practical Christian living. They
are no longer reading their Bibles faithfully, with humility and respect. They are no longer
interested in what God says on the matter.
There is an exciting opportunity coming to our area for those interested in strengthening
their marriages according to the precepts of God’s word. Peter Ray Cole, LPC, will be with us at
Central Church of Christ, 90 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV on October 1-6 for a Marriage
Seminar designed to help struggling marriages and enrich even the best of marriages! This is your
special invitation to take full advantage of this important event. Sessions on Sunday, October 1
will be at 9:45 AM, 10:45 AM and 6:00 PM. Then, Monday through Wednesday will feature
evening sessions at 7:00 p.m. Special breakout sessions for couples will be available on Thursday
and Friday for those who sign up in advance (space and availability is limited).
God is the divine designer and inventor of marriage. We read about the first marriage in
Genesis chapter 2, the very first book of the Bible. From that point forward, God has included
numerous passages in his word to help those who want to have a truly great marriage. When we
love his word and follow him, it is amazing how much better things work in marriage.
Despite what one might think after listening to much of our modern media, marriage is an
honorable institution, and, when taken seriously, can be a rewarding blessing from God. Marriage
should be greatly respected. Our ancestors who deeply trusted in the Bible as the word of God
tended to have a much better grasp on the importance of marriage and the family in our culture.
We can get back to those happier days if we return in humility to God’s way.
If you are struggling in your marriage, or perhaps contemplating whether you should marry
at all, may I urge you to attend this Marriage Seminar, and give a fair hearing to the principles
which will be presented from God’s word. You will be richly blessed if you do so. Please let us
know how we can help you with biblical resources for improving your marriage.
I do have one word of warning: much of what you will hear in this seminar is not “politically
correct.” It is not in harmony with much of what is being presented in the popular culture. You
may hear some “old-fashioned” ideas, some concepts you haven’t heard in a while. But if we will
approach these lessons with humility and an open mind, I think we will see their profound value,
and their practical importance in dealing with the issues we now face.
The American family is at a moral crossroads. We are trying to figure out who we are as a
nation. Whether we turn to God with humility and respect, or whether we continue down the road
of secular humanism is a choice Americans are now making every day. Where will you stand?
Your marriage is too important to throw away to the changing fads and shifting winds of the
popular culture.
Join us in October as we take a fresh look at the tried and true principles from God’s
word which have made strong marriages and families for thousands of years. Come with us as
we seek God’s way of rebuilding our broken homes!
