It’s Mother’s Day, so once again we pause to mouth a word,
But I was wishing I could say it so it somehow might be heard.
That I could make her understand just what she means to me,
And see that warm, adoring smile I saw upon her knee.
When I was but a little boy I had my troubles too,
But she could wipe away the tears as only mothers do.
And with a word could redirect my childish, crooked way,
And make it all alright with something simple she would say.
A mom is one who’s always there, a shelter in the storm,
Who seems to know just what it takes to keep you safe and warm.
She knows your heart, and always wants to see you do your best,
She is your biggest friend and fan above all of the rest.
A mom is one who honestly believes you are the best,
And if the others win, she knows they cheated on the test.
And when you make a big mistake and fall flat on your face,
She’s there to mend and dust you off, return you to the race.
My Mom is aged but I know she’s still in love with me,
And I am still that little boy who sat upon her knee.
And so I wanted, looking up, to somehow smile and say,
Thank you Mom, I love you still—and Happy Mother’s Day.
